Well, I was hoping that this would be an awesome recipe and it may very well be, as cupcakes. I didn’t see where it would make a difference as a cake. But it just didn’t work out. I forgot to take the cakes out of the pan and despite spraying them, it stuck. You can still see the technique on how to make a heart out of a square and round cake pan. You have to make sure that the square pan and the round are the same size — either both 8″ or 9″. Mom used to make this for us when we were growing up. We always looked forward to Valentine’s Day because we knew we’d get our heart shaped cake

Mix flour, cocoa powder, baking soda and salt in medium bowl. Set aside. Beat butter and sugar in large bowl with electric mixer on medium speed 5 minutes or until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs, one at a time. Mix in sour cream, milk, food color and vanilla. Gradually beat in flour mixture on low speed until just blended. Do not overbeat.
